About the Author

I’m 25 and have been married to my husband Mike for a year. We had our first baby, Jacob (probably the most common boy’s name of the decade, haha) in September 2009. I’m a California girl that’s been transplanted to the Kentucky/Tennessee border because that’s where the Army told us to go. We’ve been here since June 2009 and I have to say that although I REALLY miss the ocean, it’s not so bad here, and I think I’m adjusting to southern life. Before moving I was a few classes away from completing my Masters in Counseling/Marriage and Family Therapy. I put that on hold, which is fine by me because I always wanted to be a mom and would much rather be home with my little guy before doing anything else. However, since I love to try new things and to stay VERY busy, I decided to start an online Masters in Education/Early Childhood Education this year. It’s certainly interesting trying to type papers with a baby on my lap. Eventually, I’d like to specialize in Play Therapy and work with preschool – elementary school age children as a therapist.

When it comes to parenting, I guess I would consider myself a little “crunchy.” I’m a firm believer in attachment, based on my experience working in preschools and as a therapist trainee. I use a Moby wrap, I cloth diaper the majority of the time, I plan to start making baby food soon, I’m BPA free, and I do my best to only use natural products on my baby. Like my oldest sister once told my mother “It’s not fair because you’re just learning on me,” I see this first baby as an experiment to see what works and who I am as a mother. I don’t think anyone is a parenting expert, but raising kids certainly helps you gain expertise in your own children.

Thanks for reading this blog, I hope you get something out of it :)

  1. Nice to meet you and your family. I love the fact that you are looking to the future with the title you have chosen for your blog. Stay in school, Michelle; it will be the best thing you have ever done for yourself and may become the most important aspect of your future employability.

Cute son and today marks the day your husband leaves to go overseas. May your tears water the ground of your coming year with Jacob and prepare a place for planting memories to sustain the three of you over these next months.

Is that a full sleeve tattoo I see peeking out from under your sleeve in this picture of you and hubster?

    Sincerely,
    Lynda

  2. Thank you for the kind comment! Yes I have a sleeve on my right arm, and will be added to my left arm soon :)
